My Favorite Beauty Hacks

Happy Monday friends!

The beginning of the week is always the hardest, isn't it? I know a lot of you get up at the beginning of the week and have to kind of reset. Working full time, taking care of your family, your house or apartment, and yourself gets tough. It seems like there isn't enough time in the day lately, right? But everyone goes around preaching about the importance of self care and sometimes it just seems like you need to cut some corners with yourself even if you don't want to.

To avoid that, I've put together a list of some of my favorite beauty hacks to help you save time, and money.

Keep makeup wipes and a moisturizer in your nightstand.

It happens to the best of us: you come home from a long day (or night) and you're too tired to do your skincare routine so you just crash. Well I will share the first skincare tidbit that I learned in high school that has always stuck with me: If you sleep with your makeup on for one night it ages your skin by two weeks!! This was something I learned in a Peter Thomas Roth training class and it scared the life out of me. So here I am 10 years later, having never slept with my makeup on and I owe it to this hack and my obsession with keeping my skin healthy. To be honest I don't keep makeup wipes in my nightstand anymore, just a moisturizer, because I do get a bit lazy towards the end of my routine at night.

 

Keep dry shampoo in your nightstand.

Another product I leave by my bedside because why not? I have always found that dry shampoo works best the night before and this is always a reminder to use it before bed. There's nothing worse than waking up to oily hair that can't be salvaged when you didn't have the intention of washing it that day so this helps a ton!

Since starting my Instagram back in November I was immediately entranced with Katie Jane Hughes, the NYC based MUA who is blowing up all over. Her British accent and unique looks makes her so desirable and basically I just want to be her bestie. Unfortunately the closest I can get is learning tips and tricks from her looks and tutorials which is exactly where I got this from. Instead of using a beauty blender or a large foundation brush to apply foundation I love using a small brush to just cover areas I want foundation in. Using a smaller brush allows for a more precise application in smaller areas. The only reason I use foundation/concealer day to day is because of my dark circles and extra rosey cheeks. Using this technique I was able to cut down on the amount of makeup I use and produce a very natural, radiant look to my skin. Thanks for the tip Katie!

 

Use a cotton t-shirt to dry your hair.

Anyone with texture in their hair will tell you that frizz is the absolute worst. There are always going to be days where you just can't avoid it, but that doesn't need to be everyday! When I started in this industry (almost 10 years ago) there weren't any fancy microfiber towels made by Aquis or DevaCurl, but terrycloth pulled at my hair and only added to the amount of frizz so I replaced my hair towel with an old cotton t-shirt and I've been successfully fighting frizz ever since. I hang a tee shirt on the same hook as my towel so I never accidentally run my towel through my hair. This has been working for me for years!

 

 

 

Use Apple Cider Vinegar on Bumps.

We've all heard of ACV being a holy grail product for your health, but it wasn't until just recently that I realized how much it helps bumps all over your body. I started going steady with a natural deodorant that came highly recommended and after about 3 days of use I remembered how awful razor burn actually is. Two weeks in I had to break up with that deodorant because it just wasn't my thing and my razor burn was not healing.. After reading about different ways to resolve it I came across ACV and decided to try it. I would apply it about an hour prior to showering (if possible) to let it sink in but then be able to wash any extra off to avoid smelling like a pickle.. After doing this every other day for 3-4 days I saw fantastic results and decided to try it on other parts of my body, like the back of my arms and legs where I get tiny red marks or bumps. This coupled with using the Brazilian Bum Bum Cream gave me new life! It's really helped to get rid of bumps that I don't want in certain areas.
